Medicare Annual Enrollment 2025: Key Dates and What They Mean

The most important time of year for Medicare beneficiaries is almost here: Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP). For 2025, AEP runs from October 15 through December 7.

What is AEP?

AEP is your once-a-year chance to review your Medicare coverage and make changes. During this time, you can:

  • Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan (Part C), or the other way around.

  • Change from one Medicare Advantage plan to another.

  • Enroll in, drop, or switch a Prescription Drug Plan (Part D).

Why Does This Matter?

Healthcare needs, prescription drug costs, and provider networks change from year to year. Even if your plan worked well in 2024, it may not be the best fit in 2025. Reviewing your options can help you:

  • Keep your doctors and prescriptions covered.

  • Avoid unexpected out-of-pocket costs.

  • Access new benefits like dental, vision, hearing, or wellness programs.

What Should You Do to Prepare?

  1. Gather your information: Make a list of your prescriptions, doctors, and preferred pharmacies.

  2. Review your current plan: Look at the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) your insurer mailed you.

  3. Compare your options: Plans and costs vary, and what’s best for your neighbor may not be best for you.
